Son of Florida lawmaker shot at, beaten

- Police are investigating after the 22-year-old son of a Florida lawmaker was attacked earlier this week in Volusia County.

Body camera video shows what the first responding officers saw once they got on the scene. It all happened on Thunderbird Drive in Daytona Beach Wednesday afternoon.

“They had it taped off and everything so nobody would go in the crime scene,” said DeLloyd Mckee, who lives on the street.

According to a family member, the victim is Patrick Henry.  Henry is the son of a state representative, who is also named Patrick Henry, and is the nephew of the Daytona Beach mayor.

Witnesses told police a man and a woman chased Henry in a car down the street. When they got out, the man is accused of punching, pistol-whipping and shooting at the 22-year-old.

Daytona Beach Police say Henry was able to run back to his house and he ended up going to the hospital on his own.

The police report says offices found shell casings and even a shoe left behind at the scene but no one has been arrested.

McKee says this type of thing is out of the norm in the neighborhood.

“Frustrated and concerned. I know life happens and people make bad choices sometimes and get into situations but it doesn’t say anything for the neighborhood – because we never have any kind of stuff like that.”

Members of the Henry family did not return our calls for comment.
