Marion County man dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting relative

A man was shot outside a Summerfield home on Sunday afternoon according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies received a call regarding the shooting at approximately 2 p.m. Upon arrival to the home on SE 142nd Lane, they located a male victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. As of Tuesday morning, he was out of the hospital and recovering.

The Sheriff's Office says that their investigation revealed that the victim, who is related to the shooting suspect, had gone to the home to check on 63-year-old John James Harmonic. They say that after the victim knocked on the door, Harmonic shot him in the arm through the screen door. 

Detectives reportedly obtained an arrest and search warrant for Harmonic and the home. Around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office SWAT team reportedly gained entry into the home where they located Harmonic deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
