PUERTO RICO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Florida Senator Bill Nelson is expected to visit Puerto Rico, taking a firsthand look at damage caused by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria.
After an aerial tour, Nelson will meet up with Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossellò where the two are scheduled for a media availability after the tour.
According to his schedule, later in the day, the senator will also meet with FEMA at the Joint Field Office, as well as U.S. Coast Guard officials, local leaders and residents about on-going recovery efforts.
Central Florida has seen an outpouring of support for Puerto Rico since the island was hit by two devastating hurricanes last month. Several thousand of those affected by the storms have close ties to the state of Florida.
