TITUSVILLE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Titusville Police are searching for the killer who riddled a car with bullets on Saturday afternoon at the corner of Craig Avenue and Queen Street. Leroy Williams, a 45-year-old truck driver and father of three, was killed and another man injured by the hail of gunfire.
"It's a very brazen act, a Saturday afternoon, to shoot someone," said Titusville Police spokesperson Amy Matthews. "We're not sure the motive, the reason, we're looking at every possible lead to solve this crime as soon as possible."
Neighbors say Williams' wife and children, shocked and saddened by what happened, have left their home for fear of their own safety, until police can find the killer. Because police have so few leads, they have not yet been able to identify the shooter.
"We're asking the public right now for help, with any tips or leads," added Matthews. "Please call us at the police department."
This scene is less than a block away from another homicide just eight months ago. Nineteen-year-old Jeremiah Trice, 18-year-old Jiris Kelly, and a 15-year-old boy allegedly shot 24-year-old Matthew Hagerty to death in his car. Police say the victim was trying to buy drugs, but instead he was robbed and murdered by the three teenagers. Trice and Kelly are awaiting trial for capital murder.
