It's day two of the search for an escaped inmate from Lake Correctional Institution in Clermont. The Florida Department of Corrections says their Office of the Inspector will conduct an investigation to determine if there was any misconduct.

Deputies in Lake County say that they believe he is long gone from their county, but they have issued a 'Be On the Lookout' to the surrounding counties in Central Florida. Police and citizens are asked to be on the lookout for the escaped inmate.

34-year-old Alinton John, escaped from the Lake Correctional Institution, at 19225 U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont, Florida. Once John escaped the prison, he crossed four lanes of traffic onto Highway 27, then came to a farm, where deputies say he stole a truck.  Deputies also believe there may have been a gun in the truck.

The owner of the truck, Alex McCaffrey, says "It's really weird knowing someone else is out there driving your car."

Deputies say John drove that stolen truck to his sister's in Orlando. She told Fox 35 reporter Valerie Boey that "he looks just like my brother who's in prison and then he come out."

Valerie Boey also spoke to Alinton's father, who said "He's my son I love him. Give up himself. Put his arms up, come out, give up himself."

The father went on to say that his son was upset, because his girlfriend broke up with him, "She called him and told him I don't want you. I don't want to see you and blocked all his phone calls. Blocked everything. Your mind go wild, he seen the opportunity and just take it."

Alinton John was serving 15 years in prison for pointing a gun at his ex-girlfriend. and hitting her with it was even allowed outside without supervision. Both residents and business owners want to know why he was even allowed outside without supervision.

Business owner Aaron Latchman says that "it makes us scared because we're right next door and hope this gets resolved and they find the guy."

The Department of Corrections says John was in minimum custody and was monitored frequently.

We asked Governor Rick Scott if The Department of Corrections will change their policy on which inmates are allowed outside. He said that the "Department of Corrections will look at that and decide what changes will be made. He's gotta be captured."

The Florida Department of Corrections says that they are working with including Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Orlando Police Department to find Alinton.

Police say to be on the lookout for a 2001 silver Toyota pickup with FL tag JHWC97.

The Florida Department of Corrections says that if anyone has any information on the inmate's whereabouts, please contact local law enforcement or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477) immediately.
