Polk County deputies have released a sketch of the man they say tried to convince an 11-year-old girl to get into his car, using a story about her mom being in the hospital.

The sheriff's office said the little girl's mom called after her daughter ran away from the man, who approached her near her bus stop at Thousand Oaks Blvd and Ronald Reagan Parkway in Davenport around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday.

The girl said a man in a 2000-model, white, four-door car with tinted windows, black rims, and a black back bumper, drove up next to her. He told the girl her mother was in the hospital and sent him to take her there.

The girl ran away and the car made a U-turn, then turned left heading westbound on Ronald Reagan Parkway.

The man was described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s. He had short hair and a salt-and-pepper goatee, with a sunburned or red complexion. He was wearing a dark green T-shirt with orange lettering on the front.

Investigators say patrols have been stepped up in the area where the man confronted the girl.

Anyone who may know the man or have information about what happened is asked to call PCSO at (863) 298-6200, or to remain anonymous, call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
