Red Flag Warning in effect for much of East Central Florida

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of East Central Florida, which is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. this evening.

The warning was issued because of the incoming wind and low humidity. Northwest winds will be between 15 and 25 mph this afternoon. Humidity will fall into the mid to upper 20s behind a passing cold front this afternoon.

The affected areas are Southern Brevard County, Osceola, Indian River, Okeechobee, St. Lucie, Martin, and Northern Brevard County.

Any first that develop will likely spread rapidly, so outdoor burning is not recommended.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will occur shortly. The strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry environmental conditions can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
