Detectives with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the discovery of possible human remains.

The remains were discovered at a residence located at 18760 SW 47 Street in Dunnellon's Lake Tropicana community. The couple who lived at the residence have been reported missing by their family, and detectives are investigating their disappearance.

A family on Sunday member requested a well-being check on Layton Underwood, 75, and his wife, Donna, 69.   When deputies arrived at the Underwood residence, the couple was not there.

During the investigation, deputies found possible human remains on the property.  Now, forensic technicians with the Sheriff's Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the University of Florida C.A. Pound Lab are working together to gather evidence and conduct an in-depth investigation.

Detectives are also looking for the Underwood’s vehicle, which is missing from the home. Their vehicle is a2014 White Volkswagen Passat S bearing Florida tag GXRD85. It is believed that Allyn Shane Gilbert, 53, a relative of the Underwood’s, may be driving this vehicle.  Deputies are listing Gilbert as a missing endangered subject, due to concerning statements he’s recently made.

If you have any information about this case or if you know Gilbert’s location, you are encouraged to contact Detective Aaron Levy at 352-368-3546. You can also contact the Marion County Crimestoppers at 352-368-STOP.
