Police search for suspect in Orlando carjacking

Orlando police officers are searching for at least one carjacking suspect after several residents were targeted in front of their own homes.

Shane Birdsall has to use a bicycle, because his van is being processed by the Orlando Police Department, after officers say he was carjacked at gunpoint.  It was just after midnight, when investigators say the armed carjackers targeted Birdsall and two other neighbors who had just returned home and were in the parking lot off Elm Court.

"All of a sudden out of no where, three or four black guys came up and had guns pointed at my head, and they said, 'Give me your car and everything in it!' and I went to hesitate and they said, 'Or I'll blow your head off'" said Birdsall.

Birdsall says he didn't want to take any chances. "All I was thinking to myself is, what happens to my wife and my family if they shoot me in the head. So right there I just said just take it.  I gave them my keys, they got into my car and took off."

Besides the van, officers say the suspects also got away with a purse, iPhone, as well as money.  "We called 911 right away and the police ended up doing a high speed chase all the way to Silver Star and Pine Hills."

During the chase, Birdsall says his van was damaged. OPD Detective Brian Ferrara says, "The vehicle did not stop right away; however, in this kind of case, we're talking about a violent forceable felony, so the officers did what they were supposed to do."

Police arrested 20-year-old Buster Gordon and 27-year-old Stephen Williams. They are charged with armed carjacking, fleeing police, and resisting officers.

Birdsall says, "Thank God the cops found them, they're all caught besides one who's on the run. It was a scary thing, but thank God no one got hurt."
