MELBOURNE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Police in Melbourne are searching for clues to what caused fatal injuries to 53-year-old Kent Wilbanks. Detectives say he was found around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, face-up in a parking lot between Casbah's and Debauchery in downtown Melbourne.
Initially, patrol officers thought Wilbanks, who was still alive at the time he was found, was injured by a fall. The Melbourne man was taken to Holmes Regional Hospital early Monday but died later that same day. But on Tuesday, the Medical Examiner's Office found the head injury suffered by Wilbanks was not consistent with a fall, but rather something more serious. At the moment, detectives have ruled his death suspicious.
Melbourne Police are asking anyone who might have seen or talked to Wilbanks, who they believe was out at the bars during and after the Super Bowl, to provide any information they might have.
