Police say woman run over in road rage incident

Police are calling it a case of road rage, and it has landed a Brevard County woman in jail and another woman in the hospital.

Melbourne police officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run incident with injuries around 2 a.m. in the area of Race and Horne streets.  Witnesses on scene told officers that it appeared intentional, stemming from a road rage incident between two women.

One witness saw the suspect, 52-year-old Kathy Jones, following the victim in her truck, when both vehicles came to a stop. Then they say the victim got out of her car and yelled at Jones to stop following her.

In her arrest report, police say the suspect accelerated forward, hitting the victim and pinning her between the two vehicles. When she back up, the victim fell to the ground, and that's when police say the suspect put it back in drive, and hit her again.

Thanks to a good witness description, Jones landed in jail. Melbourne police say they found Jones driving a pickup truck matching the witness description more than five miles away from the scene of the hit and run.

Jones is charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle.  A judge on Thursday afternoon slightly reduced her bond, despite her criminal record.

The victim was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.
