OCALA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Detectives with the Marion County Sheriff's Office believe an Ocala couple, suspected of at least 60 burglaries across Central Florida, may also be linked to two murders.
One of the victims, Tamara Bedenbaugh, was found dead in her Ocala home in January. "We feel confident that these two individuals are linked in some way to that homicide," said Captain Brian Dotten with the Sheriff's Office.
Investigators in Citrus County believe the death of the second victim, Don "Terry" Plumeri, is somehow connected to suspects Darren Decker, 41, and Jessica Baker, 44. Plumeri, a Dunnellon musician and composer, was murdered in late March.
"We are very confident that the homicide that occurred in Citrus County on Candier Court was committed by these two individuals," said Brad Smith with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office. They have not been charged at this time. They're being held on other burglary charges. As far as our homicide case goes, we're very confident we have the people involved."
"I hope they the ones that did the deed. I hope they go to jail for a very long time," said Plumeri's neighbor, Douglas Hall.
Deputies were eventually led to the couple after a burglary victim found a stolen item on Craigslist. That eventually helped start the hunt for the suspects, accused of stealing thousands of items in several counties. "They always utilized a pillowcase when they removed the items from inside the home," explained Capt. Dotten.
The couple remains jailed in Sumter County on burglary and grand theft charges, without bond. Investigators say these two could be responsible for even more burglaries.
