Police say girl brought knife to school

A police report describes the scene of a violent fight at a Winter Garden middle school,  involving officers and a 14-year-old girl with a steak knife.

"A couple of students got into a fight, and the other stabbed him with a steak knife. They smuggled a steak knife in a school," explained Chief Bryan Holmes of the Orange County Public Schools District Police.

The arrest report says the girl accused a boy of stealing her shoes, so she pulled out a knife stabbing him in the hand.  When an officer told her to stop, the report says she ran, cursed at him, then hit the officer as he tried to take her down.

That girl, who stands 4 feet tall and weighs around 90 pounds,  is now charged with aggravated battery, bringing a weapon to school and resisting an officer with violence. But she says that's not the whole story.

"The guidance counselor broke it up, and then they arrested me."

She and her father claim she is the victim, claiming she was being bullied.  The gil, who was suspended for 10 days, is now waiting to see if she'll be kicked out of school.  Administrators aren't talking about the specifics of this case, but they say bottom line is, you bring a weapon to school and you're out.

"It's a level four offense, which means if a student is found with a knife or firearm they will be expelled," says Orange County School Board Chairman Bill Sublette.

A public defender has been assigned to girl's case and they plan to fight the charges in court.
