PALM BAY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Police officers in Palm Bay, Florida are conducting an investigation after a needle was located in a piece of candy that was handed out on Halloween night.
Justin Schaper turned the potentially dangerous candy into police. He says was snacking on one of his toddler's Twizzler snack packs this past Sunday, when he found two pieces with pins in them. The first, pricked his thumb.
"It just freaked me out, because it could have been my kid and my luck is he would have swallowed the whole thing and messed up his whole insides," he said.
Police say they have turned this case over to their major crimes detectives, and they will closely examine the candy and the pin for DNA and other clues. The quality of those clues depends on a number of factors.
"How uncontaminated is the evidence? How many people handled it beforehand? Did the possible person use gloves? There's just so many factors in this," explained Palm Bay Pollice Lt. Mike Bandish.
Police recommend that parents should always inspect their child's candy. They are trying to track down the source.
