Police: Mother arrested for DUI with infant her in lap

Trevor McNutt says his ex-wife, 35-year-old Christina Hutchinson, was visiting him from New York so she could spend time with their two children. But around noon Wednesday, he says she demanded to leave.

"I just told her if you want to leave, I'm not going to help you anymore," said McNutt from his Edgewater home, where he's raising the couple's two children. "And, I'm not going to drive you to the airport unless you spend some sober time with your kids."

McNutt said Hutchinson ordered an Uber, but before the car arrived, he said she gathered her infant -- a child from another relationship -- and took off in his white Dodge pickup truck without him knowing.

Edgewater Police said she was swerving from one side of Indian River Boulevard to the other when they caught up to her following complaints from other drivers. Police said lights and sirens were on as they tried to pull the mother of three over, but Hutchinson didn't stop until she lost control of the truck and got stuck in the water filled median.

In Hutchinson's arrest affidavit, police stated that they ordered the driver to shut the truck off and then came to the window where they saw a small child in the driver's lap.

"It's insane to just imagine the mind state that you would be in," said Mcnutt. "For no reason, she took my truck and decided to do that."

Police said Hutchinson tested positive for mix of alcohol and prescription narcotics. In her arrest affidavit, police claimed she said, "Man, I was really drunk," after getting citations for drunk driving, running from police, and child neglect.

Hutchinson's bond was set at $10,500 on charges of fleeing and eluding police, driving under the influence, and child neglect.
