CLERMONT, Fl. (WOFL) – Clermont Police say a 19-year-old was arrested over the weekend for hitting several parked cars while driving drunk.
Officers say after damaging at least five vehicles and losing a wheel on his own truck, the suspect kept driving.
“Scrapes and sparks flying everywhere just like you see on TV,” described Bryan Reed, who says he watched the suspect drive away after hitting two of his cars.
“When he hit the white Ford truck and he lost his tire that’s when he veered into my driveway and took out both of my cars.”
It all happened on Glenford Drive in Clermont early Sunday morning.
Investigators say after the calls started coming into 911, it wasn’t hard to track down the suspect’s truck given the shape it was in.
“With it dragging it’s bumper on the ground we were able to follow the white, like chalk line almost, it basically drew us right to him,” said Clermont Police Public Information Officer Kris Kruse.
Police say they found Trenton Eldridge behind the wheel. They say he was drunk, even though he’s not even legally allowed to drink at just 19 years old.
“He had mentioned that he was out drinking at night and that he felt as though he shouldn’t be driving and stated that he didn’t remember even getting into the vehicle and thought he may have hit a vehicle or so,” Kruse said.
Officers say Eldridge is charged with DUI with property damage. No one was hurt.
