Ormond Beach grandfather killed in hit and run

The family of Jeffrey Martin want answers after the 51 year-old was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck.

The wreck happened Sunday night at the corner of 13th St. and San Jose Blvd near Holly Hill. Witnesses to the crash said the driver of the truck stayed at the scene initially but then appeared to make a phone call before a white sedan pulled up.

"Then we were looking around and I was like, 'where's the driver of the truck?' and he'd gotten in that car, kind of a getaway car and took off,” said David Kiel who called 911 from his home along the street.

A Florida Highway Patrol representative said Monday that the owner of the truck is cooperating with them, but the driver is still missing.

Martin died a short time after the crash at a local hospital.

His son told FOX 35 on Monday that Martin was a good man, a father, and a grandfather who didn’t deserve to be left to die. He says he wants that driver to pay for what he did.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
