Orlando police to purchase more body cameras from federal grants

The Orlando Police Department is getting more body cameras.

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice awarded $19.3 million in grants to dozens of departments around the country, including Orlando.

Orlando police will receive about $500,000 of that grant money, officials said.

Right now, the department only has about 50 body cameras.

They want to purchase 450 cameras in the next four years.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 72 police agencies in 42 states will also receive grants.

About 21,000 cameras will be purchased nationwide, officials said.
