ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - An Orlando mother, who was shot in the face as she drove through the parking lot of a gas station on N. Pine Hills Road in Orlando, has died.
Kendra La Sheka Lewis, 27, had been placed on life support after being shot in the head on Wednesday. The hash tag "PrayForKendra" was was circulating locally on Facebook on Thursday, with people sending messages of love and hope that she might pull through.
FOX 35 learned that Lewis worked for Orlando Health. A young child who was sitting in the car when Lewis was shot was unharmed, authorities said .
"It's heartbreaking," said Megan Pahl, who is Lewis' neighbor.
"Frustration, anger," is how another neighbor, Mark Brocker, described his feelings before he learned that Lewis had succumbed to her injury. "I have no idea what would cause somebody to do this."
Witnesses near the Citgo station at Silver Star and Pine Hills roads said they heard up to five gun shots.
Investigators believe Lewis was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, as they do not know why anyone would have wanted to shoot the young mother. One witness told deputies they saw a man jump into an SUV that took off, but there are still no official suspects in the case.
"Her kids are great. I can't imagine how that feels for her children," said Brocker. "I hope that they find them, and the catch them, and they punish them to the fullest extent of the law."
If you have any information about the shooting, call the Orange County Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
