Orlando airport workers rally for higher wages

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Tipped workers at Orlando International Airport say they can no longer live on wages as low as $5.23 per hour.

On Wednesday, the workers rallied alongside politicians, Disney Union workers, and leaders from the 32BJ service union in the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel at the airport. Several of the workers like 10-year veteran wheelchair attendant and skycap Emmanuel Hunt said that they’ve never gotten a bump in their base wage.

"Inflation, cost of living, everything is going up and our salaries remain the same,” said Hunt.

Hunt said they are considered tipped workers, but the tips are often few and far between. These are the folks who are seen pushing people in wheelchairs through the terminals, helping folks to their gates, and providing other one-on-one services.
