Orange County hiring 200 deputies

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to hire 200 new deputies in 2017.

“It’s a lot of deputies,” said Captain Angelo Nieves, who said that in years past the sheriff’s office has hired fewer than 150 officers per year.

The department is anticipating more retirements than usual.   Nieves said the agency’s human resources department is continuously hiring—they currently have 40 positions posted—but they are “ramping up” recruitment efforts.
