Officer struck by suspect in stolen vehicle

An accused car thief was busted by a vigilant officer in Ocoee.

The motorcycle officer was conducting a traffic stop, when he noticed an unoccupied car running.  Police say the officer ran the license plate and discovered it was stolen.  Officials say the suspect jumped into the car and pushed the gas, hitting the officer and the car he pulled over.

"This is a really good opportunity to remind people about situational awareness," said Deputy Chief Stephen McCosker.  "Being aware of something that looks out of place really should be reported to the police."

Police say the officer shot at the suspect's car, but he got away. The suspect crashed into another car nearby and was arrested.
