Ocala woman accused of killing husband

An Ocala man is dead, and investigators believe his wife is the one who fatally shot him.

Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, investigators found Mark Penland, 53, inside a home at 8000 block of Southeast 16th Terrace, with a gunshot wound, and not breathing.  "We immediately gave him CPR. Deputies immediately offered CPR to this patient," said Lauren Lettelier, with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Penland was rushed to Ocala Regional Medical Center after the shooting. He died at the hospital on Wednesday morning. Investigators believe his own wife, Michelle Dinkins-Penland, pulled the trigger.

"It was a domestic disturbance between both individuals,” Lettelier said. “All of the information is still being ironed out at this time by detectives."

Neighbors said they were saddened by the shooting on their street.  The Sheriff’s Office said Dinkins-Penland hasn't been arrested yet, because the case is still under investigation.  "Ultimately, whether or not this is going to be a self-defense case, or not, is going to be determined by the State Attorney's Office," Lettelier explained.

Lettelier said the State Attorney’s Office would decide if there is probable cause to make an arrest.
