New playground donated for Red Bug Lake Park

Red Bug Lake Park is nice little spot, with tennis courts, an outdoor fitness course and a fishing pier. But there's one thing that's been glaringly missing for quite a while now, and it's the play ground that used be active with families. Seminole County deemed the Casselberry park unsafe and ripped it out a few years ago.

Now, construction is underway for a new playground, compliments of a family-owned business. "It will be a state-of-the-art playground, like nothing else that's been seen around the country or the world," said Rob Dominica, of Longwood-based Dominica Recreation.

"We're building a play spot for my father," Rob said of his late father, Richard Dominica, who passed away a few years ago.  He was a major figure in the playground industry for 46 years.  It took a year-and-a-half for Rob to be emotionally ready to start the project and six months' planning, with help for from his four children. Each one helped with the design, which includes a 100-foot zip line and a special swing.

"I think it's a multi-generational swing and a parent gets to swing with his child face-to-face, eye-to-eye. It will also have colored mosaics. It's going to put some great shadows here," Rob explained.

The park will be dedicated on Saturday at 10 a.m.
