Deadly crash closes turnpike near Osceola Parkway

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that happened around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, in the northbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike.  All lanes were shut down at mile marker 250, which is located south of State Road 417 and north of the Osceola Parkway.

Troopers said two people, a man and a woman, were struck by a vehicle as they were attempting to secure a plastic tarp on a trailer.  The man died at the scene and the woman was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee in critical condition.

Investigators are trying to determine why the vehicle that struck the victims, described as a Ford truck, entered onto the shoulder.  It is also unclear whether the driver of the Ford truck, a 21-year-old man, will face any charges.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
