SAINT CLOUD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Downtown Saint Cloud is full of colorful murals. Many have a patriotic theme, but Dolly Clements said the city seems to have a problem with the one on her building.
“They now want to say whether my American flag and bald eagle is appropriate for downtown Saint Cloud,” Clements said.
Clements is renovating a downtown building to turn it into an insurance agency and other offices. She had the mural finished in early July. The city says Clements didn't get their permission before painting it. Clements says she didn't realize it would be any problem.
“I didn't think, since this is a veteran town, that I would have a problem painting the American flag and the American bald eagle on my wall. It is my building,” Clements said.
The city said they've now given Clements the paperwork she should have completed and asked her to submit it to the planning department. Clements said she certainly will.
“I don't have a problem doing paperwork, I adhere to the rules,” Clements said.
Code enforcement said they will be checking the downtown area now to make sure each business that has murals, has the city's approval.
