Mother who fatally stabbed daughter punches correctional officer

A mother who fatally stabbed her 11-year-old daughter is facing new charges after punching a correctional officer.

An Orange County arrest affidavit said that on April 11th, a deputy was dispatched to the Booking and Release Center on John Young Parkway regarding a battery on a corrections officer. Upon arrival, the deputy met with the involved oficer.

The officer reportedly said that she was inside a cell regarding a possible injury to inmate Rosa Rivera, who pulled out her IV against orders. The officer entered the cell to ensure Rivera's safety. While receiving instruction, Rivera stood up and punched the officer in the face. Rivera was secured and the officer left the cell.

The incident was captured on surveillance video, according to the arrest affidavit. A small portion of the incident was also captured on body worn camera. Rivera is clearly shown standing up and punching the officer in the face.

The arrest affidavit stated that there is probable cause that Rivera did commit the offense of a battery on a corrections officer against the officer's will. Bodily harm was intentionally caused and Rivera knew the person involved was a Corrections Officer. The officer performed her duties lawfully.

A Battery on a Corrections Officer has reportedly been added to Rivera's pending cases.

Rivera was arrested in March for fatally stabbing her 11-year-old daughter because she wanted to prevent her from having sexual relations with men. While in custody, she was placed on suicide watch
