Man suffers from major head trauma after alleged drunken parkour accident

- A 23-year-old Rockledge man suffered serious head injuries late Saturday after falling from a 3-story rooftop in downtown.

At 9:35 p.m. Saturday, Cocoa patrol officers and fire rescue personnel responded to 100 Harrison Street for a report of a man who had fallen from the roof. When first responders arrived the man was found face-down on the ground with what was described as “major” head trauma.

The man, later identified as Christopher Hobgood, 23, was airlifted to the trauma center. His condition is not currently known.

The investigation revealed Hobgood was with three other individuals on the roof of the building. According to witnesses, Hobgood had been drinking alcohol during the night and had lost his balance while sitting/lying on the edge of the rooftop.

There was also information that led to speculation regarding the possibility that the group went to the rooftop to participate in “Parkour” activity—jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

While the motive is not verified, the police department will begin working with downtown building and business owners to make sure all properties with rooftop access are properly secured to prevent access.

Business owners will also be educated about the Parkour activity and encouraged to trespass anyone attempting to gain access to rooftops.

Officers will also be directed to increase patrols during peak traffic hours to discourage trespassing.

“We will not tolerate this type of activity in our city,” said Chief Mike Cantaloupe. “It is extremely dangerous and we want to make sure we do our best to prevent a tragedy.”
