ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A man who shot while driving along Chuluota Road in East Orange County is hoping law enforcement officers will find the shooter. He says there's no reason why anyone would want to injure him.
"Patriots lost, which was the beginning of my bad night," said Mike Zajack.
It only got worse after a barrage of bullets flew at him, with one bullet striking him in the thigh, as he drove his work vehicle.
"This is the one that got me," he gestured. "It came through here and hit the seat and came up through the seat."
The father of three pulled over and called 911.
"They were like, 'Are you driving?' and I said, 'I am.' And they said, 'Didn't you say you got shot?' 'I did, but I'm not staying here,'" Zajack said.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are now investigating, but Zajack has a hunch who it could be.
"I think it was a random act of gang violence, some sort of an initiation," he said. "What hurts more is not necessarily a pain, it's an uneasiness even when I think about it. Someone tried to kill me and fortunately they didn't."
He believed the shooter fired 10 to 15 rounds.
"To only get hit with one in a non life-threatening way, someone was looking out for me."
Zajack said the shooter was driving a white sports car., possibly a Toyota Scion.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
