Man charged with robbery after beating up a 15-year-old

A 25-year-old man was arrested by deputies after they say he beat up a 15-year-old over the death of a dog.

Polk County Sheriff's Office released that a 15-year-old boy was walking to a store when he noticed a dog had been hit and killed by a passing vehicle in front of a home on Knights Station Road in Lakeland.

The resident, Antwan Houston, came out of the home and blamed the boy for the death of his dog.

Houston grabbed the boy's headphones, which were around his neck, and the boy pulled away, according to Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Houston then began to hit the boy, knocking him to the ground, and continued hitting and kicking him.

Houston's roommate pulled the man away from the victim, and the child ran away and called 911.

The victim suffered several injuries. The victim told deputies that if it wasn't for the roommate, he believes Houston would have killed him.

Houston told deputies he blamed the boy for his dog's death.

Deputies say there was a lot of traffic in the area and there is no evidence that the boy had anything to do with the dog's death.

Houston was charged with robbery without a firearm.
