Man arrested with his three kids in the car after hit-and-run encounter

- A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report states that a man was arrested for DUI with his three kids in the car.

According to the report, an officer was dispatched to a traffic crash involving a white pickup truck and a minivan on State Road 44 and Country Road 415. After speaking with the driver of the truck and a few witnesses, it was apparent that the minivan struck the truck at a high speed. However, the white van had left the scene of the accident prior to the officer's arrival.

After receiving a tip, the officer was able to find the mini van. Police say that Mark Harry Hackstie was the driver. His mouth smelled immediately of a strong alcoholic odor. He also had a very hard time walking, as we would sway and stumble when walking. His speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot, and he could barely keep his eyelids open.

The FHP officer says he then attempted to arrest Hackstie, but he began to walk towards his three children, who were located in the minivan. The man was then asked to complete a field sobriety test, but he refused repeatedly.

The report says that an Edgewater officer teamed up with the FHP officer to arrest Hackstie, but he resisted by tensing up, locking his arms, and even rolling around. He was eventually placed under arrest and his children were picked up by a naunt.

Hackstie was transported to the Volusia County Jail and was charged with Careless Driving, DUI, DUI with Property Damage, DUI with Personal Injury, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Resisting Without Violence, and Three Counts of Child Neglect.
