ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - After seventeen years of construction, the lights are finally on inside the tallest building in Seminole County. The owner of the 18-story Majesty Building, Claud Bowers, said the project is almost completed.
“Eight to twelve months for sure!” he said. "We're moving as quickly as we can, as fast as we can, and as safe as we can."
Walkers around Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs could make out light coming from inside the building on Wednesday evening.
“It’s an eyesore," said Dana Thomas. "It's huge and it's just really ugly!"
"It's not been done since I've been a kid, and I'm 18 years old now!" Thaddeus Moore said. "It’s kind of like a monument of Atamonte.”
"We're excited to hear that they had lights on," said Catherine Serrett. "That would be fantastic, because it's a great building. It's beautiful!"
Additional funding will be needed to complete the building, but Bowers said they are proceeding, having hired two contractors to work on both the interior and exterior. All that’s left to finish are the elevators, floors, and rotunda he added.
Inclement weather, access to construction materials and budget constraints have been the three big hold ups to the project, according to Bowers.
