Lightning strikes Deltona gas station tank

A large hole was left in a Deltona gas station parking lot, all because of a lightning strike that hit a gas pump and resulted in the explosion of an under ground fuel tank.

Luis Nazario and his family live behind the gas station. They were eating dinner last night when a bright light filled their home.

"It illuminated everything, the walls, and the feet, the floor was trembling," he said.

The good news is, the lightning strike hit an empty underground tank. Otherwise, work crews say this could have been much worse.

Tuesday night's storms rolled in and lasted for hours.  Nazario said it was like nothing he's every seen before. Even though there was someone at the gas pump at the time, no one was hurt.
