Leesburg plans 'pocket park' pedestrian mall
LEESBURG, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - In the Lake County city of Leesburg, you will soon be able to stroll through a new "pocket park."
The small, pedestrian mall and green space will be located on a closed portion of Palmetto street, between Main and Magnolia streets.
Authorities in Leesburg say this section of Palmetto is below standards for a public street and the lanes are very narrow, so they believe a mix of pedestrian and vehicular traffic is hazardous.
Beacon College controls property on both sides of Palmetto Street, and the school is planning to create a pocket park and pedestrian mall that will enhance and beautify the area.
A smaller, similar park-like setting, known as Mitch’s Garden, also constructed by Beacon College, is located on Main Street just to the east.
