LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - An employee at the Lake County Detention Center was arrested after being caught bringing contraband into the jail.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office says that their undercover detectives arrested a civilian employee of Lake County Detention Center on Wednesday evening following an investigation regarding contraband being brought into the jail.
Detectives say they arrested Kathy Beasley for bringing items, like marijuana, cigarettes, tobacco, and a cell phone to an inmate who she apparently befriended. Beasley worked in the kitchen of the jail preparing food for inmates.
The investigation was said to have begun one month ago after information was received from another inmate that such items were being brought in.
According to detectives, Beasley admitted to bringing the items in, stating she had developed a friendship with the inmate and felt sorry for him. She was arrested and booked in with a $2,000 bond.
Beasley was said to have been employed at the Sheriff's Office for 13 years; she has never had disciplinary action before. Termination proceedings are currently underway.
