Insanity claim from man accused of killing wife

- A Daytona Beach man, accused of killing his wife in April of 2015, was in court on Tuesday. Johan Chiri, 45, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Milena Chiri, 38.

A motion filed by a public defender representing Chiri claims that Chiri could not determine right from wrong or the consequences of his action, due to insanity, when he allegedly murdered his wife.  The motion states that Chiri was suffering from schizoaffective disorder and or schizophrenia at the time.

Milena Chiri's throat had been slit and she had a wound to her upper torso when she was discovered by police officers in the couple's Daytona Beach apartment, investigators said.  The Chiris 12-year-old daughter called 911 and told a dispatcher she thought her father had killed her mother.
