Injured Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia honored with award

Injured Orlando Police Officer Kevin Valencia was honored with an award on Thursday.

The Orange County Bar Association gave Valencia the 'Liberty Shield Award for his commitment to law enforcement. His wife, Meghan, accepted the award on his behalf as Valencia is still in a coma after being shot last summer at an Orlando standoff.

The Bar Association said that Officer Valencia shows the community what it means to put the safety of others before your own.

"We are honored and privileged to present the award to Officer Valencia this year. We are so impressed by the dedication and heroism of this officer. It's the least that we can do," the association said.

A free Pitbull concert is being held by Dan Newlin in June at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in honor of Valencia. Any proceeds made will go to him and his family.
