I-4 Ultimate construction closes section of Garland Avenue for 14 months

Garland Avenue, between Colonial Drive and Marks Street, will close for 14 months, according the Florida Department of Transportation.

Transportation officials say the extended closure is necessary for workers to do drainage and bridge work for a new eastbound I-4 entrance ramp from Colonial Drive and to realign Garland Avenue.

I-4 Ultimate Project Spokesman David Parks says, "We have a 14-month closure of Garland that will start Monday, March 7. The closure is necessary for crews to get in here and install drainage, relocate some utilities and realign Garland Avenue. Basically, push it a little bit to the east, so we have room to widen I-4."

Parks says while FDOT crews work on Garland, city crews will be working on another project on Marks Street.

Parks says, "If you're heading northbound, you want to head over to Magnolia Avenue to get around this detour. If you're heading south, you just go one block over to Orange Avenue."
