Hunt for murder suspect in Orlando tourist district

Orlando Police say a possible murder suspect was taken into custody Tuesday in the tourist district off International Drive.

Witnesses say all the action happened near the Heart of I-Drive Hotel and Econo Lodge in the middle of the day.

“At one state, you couldn’t get past because of the police,” said John Pawlowski, who is visiting from England.

He and others described a parking lot full of cops. Larene Graham, who's from Rochester, says her son ran to their hotel room to tell her something was going on.

“He said, ‘Mom, oh my god, they got the hotel surrounded. Police have their guns drawn!’ He saw the marshals out here, he said the detectives are here.” Graham said.

Orlando Police say the whole thing started just before 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with the fugitive unit following behind a possible suspect wanted for a homicide.

Police say when the guy saw them, he took off.  According to investigators, the man ended up crashing his car on Interstate 4 near Sand Lake Road.  He and a female passenger apparently then took off on foot.  Tourists say they watched the two get arrested outside their windows.

“It kind of scared me because it’s up close, up front,” Graham said.

Police say the suspects are talking with detectives. Their names haven’t been released.
