How to stop mail theives

When it comes to actually using the post office, law enforcement says it's best to do so at the post office.
Here's why:
Sunday, Lake County deputies arrested 47-year-old William McMurren and 38-year-old Jamie Johnson after catching them allegedly stealing more than one hundred pieces of mail!
According to the arrest affidavit, the pair would drive a car and roll up to mailboxes along the street, take the mail, then drive off to the next mailbox.
This isn't a new crime.
Last year in Deland at least a dozen people reported their mail stolen.
And in Tampa last year, the rage for these sort of mail thieves was the holiday package delivered and left on the front porch.
So as we get ready for the holidays this year, the Lake County Sheriff's Office suggests you empty your mailbox every day as soon as you can, you have packages delivered to a friend or relative you know will be home if you won't be, ask the delivery company to hold it until you pick it up, require a signature upon delivery, tell the company where to put the package: the back porch for example, then ask them to take your note with them, use a tracking service, use in-store pickup, and check your financial statements regularly.
Identity theft often follows.
Lastly, when your mailing cards with money or gift cards, drop them at the Post Office.  A raised flag on a mailbox is an invitation to mailbox thieves.
