Helmet-less motorcycle driver killed in crash

- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says that a motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning in a crash with a truck on Dirksen Drive near the Interstate 4 ramp.

They say the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m.

The victim, 28-year-old Carl Lee Pierce of Deltona, was reportedly driving a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Dirksen.

An eastbound 2016 Ford F-150 driven by 32-year-old Dusitn Lee Lindsey of Lake Mary turned into Pierce's track, deputies say, as it entered the I-4 on ramp. It appears both drivers had a green light at the time of the crash.

Deputies also say that Pierce did not appear to be wearing a helmet and there were no immediate signs of any driver impairment. They say that speed also did not appear to be a factor in the crash. However, the crash is still under investigation.
