Fundraiser for FWC officer injured in crash

- Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer Kyle Plussa is recovering from a horrific crash that happened last month, but his brothers in blue spent Monday night at Texas Roadhouse serving people in his honor.

It’s not every night you go out to eat and are greeted by a cop, but this is not ordinary night at the Texas Roadwhosue in Clermont.

“He’s a nice guy. He's a go-getter. I don't want to say that he's a big teddy bear but he is,” said FWC Officer Chad Weber.

“He's come a long way, and he's worked really hard,” said Clermont Police Officer Michelle Rogers.

“I just love him as a son if he was my son,” said Margie Kramer, of Clermont.

Kyle Plussa grew up in Clermont. Now an officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, he only recently woke up from a coma. He suffered a massive head injury in a crash in North Naples last month when he was off-duty, driving a U-Haul on his way to move in with his fiancé.

“So it was the first day at their new house,” said Weber.

A new beginning was seemingly smashed. But now, it might just be on hold. He was transferred to a hospital in Atlanta, Georgie where he’s now awake, starting to walk, talk and eat. But all that rehab comes at a cost.

“His mom, she's racking up bills in hotels left and right just to support her son,” said Kramer.

That’s why Texas Roadhouse is donating part of its proceeds to Officer Plussa’s Go Fund Me page. So are the officers who are waiting tables and working for trips that will also be donated.

“Just an inspiration to many and we're happy to help in any little way and honestly it doesn't surprise me that he's doing really well,” said Officer Rogers.

The family of Officer Plussa is hoping he'll be out of the hospital by the end of the year.
