Fund set up for police detective injured in crash that killed wife

A Go Fund Me account has been established to assist a Port Orange police detective who lost his wife in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.

Detective Dave Fouts was critically injured and has been unconscious since the crash on Sunday occurred just after 9 a.m. on U.S. 1 and Skyline Drive in New Smyrna Beach.  His wife, Jennifer Steinmann-Fouts, died at the scene.  The two were married on May 16, 2015, and would be celebrating their first anniversary this year, according to a police spokesman.

Det. Fouts is suffering from multiple injuries and will need several surgeries, which the doctors will be unable to perform until the swelling to his brain and body descend, according to the Go Fund Me page established by the Coastal Florida Police Benevolent Association.

Jennifer is survived by a 13-year-old daughter, and Dave has an adult son and daughter.   According to organizers, all contributions will go towards memorial services, medical costs, assist with the couple's financial obligations, and any other expenses they may face.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call New Smyrna Beach Sgt. Mark Severance, 386-424-2220.
