Flu cases up, but not only bug in Central Florida

- As flu continues to spread, doctors warn patients not to neglect other illnesses hitting the area hard.

Doctors at Centra Care Urgent Cares report more cases of illnesses like bronchitis, strep throat, even repertory and lung infections coming into their clinics right now.

"I've seen a couple of people come in with fever and cough and I'm thinking it's the flu, but it turns out they have pneumonia; they have a lung infection,” said Dr. Tim Hendrix.

A lot of the illnesses are ones that need to be treated, Hendrix said, and should be addressed even though they’re not the flu.

Though Hendrix said the flu is definitely still a main concern.

On Wednesday the newest CDC flu report came out showing Florida in the widespread category for the first time this season.

Hendrix said his clinics are still seeing about double the patients for the flu that they saw this time last year. He said the most essential symptom that he urges people to watch out for is a sudden high fever; he said this time of year that’s usually a flu indicator.
