PALM COAST, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A middle school student has been arrested after the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said he made threats on XBOX Live to shoot up his school.
Deputies who spoke to witnesses say the 13-year-old suspect told fellow students who were playing online that he had plans to shoot up Buddy Taylor Middle School and that he had made a map of the campus.
Concerned students reportedly told school administrators about the threats and called authorities.
"We are glad that these students spoke up and let their parents know exactly what was being said on XBOX," Sheriff Rick Staly said in a press release. "We have a zero tolerance policy in Flagler County for threats of violence in our schools."
The Sheriff's Office said they have been working closely with the school district to remind parents and students about appropriate speech and behavior in schools as well as online.
The student is facing a felony charge of false report concerning the use of a firearm in a deadly manner.
