FHP troopers, staff sent to Republican National Convention

FOX 35 News has learned that the Florida Highway Patrol has sent 100 sworn officers and 34 administrative staff to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention.

Florida's one of 14 states to respond to Ohio's Emergency Management Assistance Compact request.  EMAC is the nation's state to state mutual aid system.  The cost of sending all that personnel to Ohio is $611,000.

An FHP spokeswoman says that cost will be reimbursed to Florida by the state of Ohio.  You may remember, FHP had a lead role in providing security at the last RNC convention in Tampa in 2012.
