FHP searching for clues in fatal hit-and-run

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are searching for the driver who killed a Kissimmee man at a busy intersection.  The family of Jess Schottborgh says they put out a sign asking for information after the 42-year-old man was hit by a vehicle, which then left the scene, according to authorities.  Schottborgh later died at the hospital.  FHP says this fatal hit-and-run incident took place on Simpson Road and Royal Palm Drive in Kissimmee.

"He was walking across the street, and a car hit him. Then pulled over slightly and just left," said Schottborgh's sister, Johanna.   She says she talked to a woman who was walking her dog when the crash occurred.   According to troopers, the woman turned around after Schottborgh was hit.

"She does think it was like a white work van with two windows in the back. She did say there was a woman in a maroon SUV that pulled over and said, did you see that car hit the guy. So we know someone saw it and from what the lady said a lot of people pulled over so I know a lot of people saw it as well."

Jean Schottborgh, the victim's Brother says, "At the time that it happened, it was light out.  Someone had to have seen something."

The victim's mother, Juana Montero, has something she wants to say to driver that killed her son. Johanna translates, "She forgives them, but they should turn themselves in. She said that could happen to anyone but turn yourself in. Turn yourself in."

Johanna says her brother was a funny person who enjoyed talking to everyone. She wonders how someone could be so cruel and not help him. "I'm upset they left, they just left him there to die, that's the part that makes me angry. We just want someone to come forward and say what they saw. Any little bit of information helps."
