FBI seeking man who took pictures of school

UMATILLA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Local law enforcement officials in Lake County say they are working with the FBI Jacksonville Division and state law enforcement partners to locate a man who was seen taking pictures outside of Umatilla High School at dismissal earlier this week. The same man was later seen driving past Umatilla Middle School.

School administrators questioned Mehmet M. Alkan, 54, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, after his behavior raised suspicions. Law enforcement officers questioned him as well.  Alkan, who did not report having any children enrolled at the schools, received a written trespass warning from the school district.

A telephone voice message was delivered to parents of both Umatilla High School and Umatilla Middle School on Thursday, and administrators throughout the district were reminded to stay vigilant and follow the district's standard security practices.

Alkan was not arrested and is not suspected of any specific crime, but law enforcement authorities are interested in speaking with him further. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 352-343-2101.
