Dunkin Donuts employee shot at in attempted robbery

When Damona Christian came to work at the Dunkin' Donuts in the heart of downtown Apopka early Saturday morning, she said she felt something was wrong.

“I always look around the parking lot because it was five minutes before five o'clock, you know. And when I turned around, someone was behind me,” Christian said.

Apopka police say it was Robby Whittaker.

“He told me don't say nothing,” Christian said, “and I just started screaming.”

That's when cops say Whittaker started shooting, unloading his gun right at Christian.

“One hit the drive-thru window and the others ricocheted off the brick wall,” Christian said. “They hit the wall and bounced off.”

Amazingly, every bullet missed.

After that, police say Whittaker ran away, but it didn't take them long to find him.

Cops say they found the gun in his backpack.

Whittaker is now behind bars.

Christian says she's happy she wasn't hurt, but it will be a long time before things are back to normal.

“I'm not doing good at all,” she said. “I can't stop thinking about it.”
