Drunk driver strikes three women standing near Tavares road

A drunk driver plowed into three women standing near a Tavares road.

The incident occurred on Old U.S. Highway 441 in Lake County. The police report says that three women were standing in the grass and Tavares police officer watched as a white Cadillac Escalade came off the road and hit the women.

The report also says the SUV stopped just down the road and the driver got out. The Tavares officer says he chased it down on foot, but when he identified himself as a cop, the man got back in and took off.

Scott Haehn was the man arrested when Lake County deputies finally found the SUV. The police report says that Haehn gave two separate breathe tests and that his blood alcohol content was above .30. That is nearly four times the legal limit.

The police report also says that officers found broken parts scattered around the scene. They were consistent with the damage done to the escalade. Despite being hit by the 5,500 pound SUV, police say that none of the women are seriously hurt.

Scott Haehn is now charged with DUI resulting in serious injury, hit and run with injuries, and resisting arrest in Lake County.
